My paper. [Saturday, 26th April, 2008 @ 7:09pm]

[ mood | full ]

Basically I had to compare the Dollanganger series with a couple sensation fiction / Gothic novels we read in my Brit. / Victorian Lit. class. I think if I had a chance to re-do it, I would just narrow my focus to Cathy as a descendant of the sensation fiction / Gothic heroine.

Fanmix [Tuesday, 22nd April, 2008 @ 11:12pm]

[ mood | sleepy ]

I finally did a Dollanganger fanmix! I've been compiling this for ages.

Contains heavy spoilers for Flowers in the Attic and Petals on the Wind. Told mostly from the POVs of Cathy and Chris.

Feedback is very welcome.

Recommendations [Tuesday, 22nd April, 2008 @ 4:08am]

I originally compiled this list as a response to the post asking about the author who wrote like VC Andrews. Obviously this got a little long.

Lots of recommendationsCollapse )

Ghost Writer [Thursday, 3rd April, 2008 @ 2:02am]

Hello, I'm new here, though I've lurked for a little while. ^__^

I don't want to go into a rant about the ghost writer because...hee, let's not even go there, but there is one particular thing that keeps bothering me.

This last week, I decided to reread a few of the earlier novels and something bugged me...

Slight SpoilersCollapse )
Maybe I'm just being anal...or perhaps I've read the Doll series way too much so that I can automatically recognize a passage from it.

[ mood | curious ]

My apologies if this isn't allowed to be posted here.

Someone once told me that there's this other author out there, who writes just like V.C. Andrews. For the life of me though, I can't seem to find where I wrote that name down. OR remember who told me about it.

Hopefully someone here will know what I'm talking about.

OMG WTF?! the Secret Series [Saturday, 28th April, 2007 @ 5:32pm]

[ mood | crazy ]

There's a new series coming this year, named the Secret Series...from Andrew Neiderman's mouth...

This two-book story will be about two small-town girls, a murder, and "the attic they use and develop into something very special."

It wouldn't be surprising if there were ripoffs from Flowers in the Attic!

A bit of a rant on the book Scattered Leaves; it's placed behind a cut tag. Just in case there's people out there whom haven't read it yet.

My Hudson Series Rant [Saturday, 7th April, 2007 @ 3:49pm]

I've just finished "The Eye of the Storm", and I feel like there are missing things on the story, and patches that were never fixed...

Precocious puberty, meet ghastly ghostwriter. [Friday, 16th March, 2007 @ 7:37pm]

[ mood | irritated ]

A couple of things:

1. I don't know how many people have read the second book of the March series yet ("Scattered Leaves", featuring Jordan, the little girl going through "precocious puberty"), but I'm a few chapters in thanks to some handy-dandy personal time spent on the crapper, and I've got to say, Andrews' ghost writer is getting harder and harder to stomach. I think these things are supposed to be set in modern times; why, then, do we have African-American characters named "Mae Betty", who talks like the Black characters from "To Kill A Mockingbird"? THIS IS NOT 1900. I know, it's like REALLY hard to believe, but not all Black people utter sentences like "why you stop?" and are indentured servants. Jesus fuck.

2. I don't have much hope in it considering how much the adaptation of "Flowers in the Attic" blew, but there's an ad in the back of SL for a movie adaptation of the book "Rain". It says nothing about going to theatres; I'll probably Netflix it if it's just a DVD release, just because I'm curious, but my standards are pretty low. I basically pick up the latest V.C. novels out of habit and a certain appreciation for being able to predict which family member will sleep with whom next than because they're all that original or groundbreaking anymore. Sad, but true.

Hi there. [Friday, 1st December, 2006 @ 10:14pm]

[ mood | blah ]

I am hoping this LJ is still operational because there are only 8 LJs with any link to V.C. Andrews, and this one has the most recent journal updates.

So anyway,
Name: Jacinta
Age: 18
Local: Melbourne, Australia
How I came to like V.C. Andrews: my mother use to talk about them all the time when I was a little younger but I never got to borrow any from the library. But just a few weeks ago my old next door neighbour was cleaning out her library cause she is moving and gave me about 7 V.C. Andrews books. I didn't know they were in series so I just picked up a random one and read it. It was Heart Song, which I late founb out is the second book in the Logan series. Anyway, turns out that a friend of mine has book 1 and 3 hidden away in the back of her library, so she lent them to me.
(You must think I'm a real snob with all this talk of 'libraries', but there is no other way to describe the vast collection of books that I have here and that my old next door neighbour and friend has).

Broken Flower [Friday, 6th October, 2006 @ 4:58pm]

So, the newest V.C. Andrews book to be released was Broken Flower which came out on October 3rd. Has anyone else read it yet? If so, what did you think? If you respond with a spoiler, please write SPOILER in caps before the comment.

While I don't go into detail, I did actually like this book more. It's still no where near the Casteel or Landry series. But it was 4x better then the last series. I still don't like how he seems to be trying to hard to shock people. But it was written better than the last few novels have been. I actually want to read the next one. I did feel that he was referring to FITA a bit to much in the book and I also felt that he made the main character seem too old and dumb. She's supposed to be a little girl and yet he sometimes seemed like he was writing about a very immature 13 year old, or a 13 year old with disabilities.

Hello! [Friday, 14th July, 2006 @ 11:13am]

Hello! My name's Fallon. I'm 17 years old and I'm new here. I'm so glad I found other V.C.Andrews lovers! I love those books, they're awesome! My favs are Dollanganger Series and Casteel Series.

11 Charmed, 20 V.C. Andrews Quotes and 6 Anne Taintor Inspired Icons [Thursday, 30th March, 2006 @ 12:45pm]

Since today (or rather, last night) was a day off me, I spent a few hours making different icons and trying new styles. Since my Francesca Lia Block quote icons were so popular, I decided to make more using my most favorite author, V.C. Andrews. And since I watched Charmed for a couple hours today, I got inspired to make Charmed icons. Finally the vintage icons with Anne Taintor quotes are some oldies but goodies that I made. I hope you enjoy them all!

FYI: There are some spoilerish VCA quote icons for the Dollanganger series and for My Sweet Audrina, so do not read them if you have not read the books and don't want to ruin the surprises!

Confirmation On Written Books [Monday, 6th February, 2006 @ 3:25pm]

[ mood | complacent ]

After many conflicting reports and several debates, I finally just broke down and asked Neiderman. He didn't want to tell me directly, but when I guessed, he said I was correct.

Books that VCA actually wrote herself are: Flowers in the Attic, Petals on the Wind, Of There Be Thorns, My Sweet Audrina, Heaven and Dark Angel.

Books that Andrews and Neiderman wrote together are: Seeds of Yesterday and Garden of Shadows.

Books that Neiderman wrote himself are: From Fallen Hearts all the way up to current day books.

Hope that helps and ends the conflicting stories!

Rain Movie: Updated News [Sunday, 29th January, 2006 @ 4:41pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

There's some been some recent news regarding the brand new V.C. Andrews movie adaptation of Rain. As the updates on The Complete V.C. Andrews website keep popping up, there's a confirmed post-production promotional picture from the movie released by the filmmakers, as seen here. The article follows by saying this:

From Rags To RichesCollapse )

Thoughts? Opinions? Nitpicks? I, personally, am anticipating on how well adapted this film is going to be. Surely there are going to be changes here and there, but I am definitely going to see this once it comes out this spring or summer, if the release dates don't get pushed back that is.

FITA question [Monday, 9th January, 2006 @ 2:21am]

Hi I am a new member but I've been reading VCA since I was about 14 or 15.

Anyhow I have a question about FITA, I've heard before that Andrews based the story on a true story, does anyone know anything about it? Obviously FITA and the rest of the series is fictionalized, but I wouldn't mind finding out more about what Andrews based her story on.

Thanks in advance.

[Tuesday, 3rd January, 2006 @ 11:43pm]

[ mood | cheerful ]

Hey everyone. :) I'm new here! My name is Krista and I've been reading the VC Andrews novels for about six or seven years now. XD Seems like so much longer than it feels... lol. I've read all the older books up to Melody of the Logan series, as well as The Shooting Stars series, Broken Wings, 4/5 of De Beers, and Celeste from the Gemini series. :3 I've just started Black Cat and it's going kind of slow... lol but I hear it gets good once you get into it, so I'm hoping that's true. XD

Has anyone read April Showers or Child of Darkness yet? If you did, did you like them/it? My boyfriend picked up CoD for me, and I'm kind of anticipating reading that as the summary at least sounded interesting, but AS looked kind of...well, dull. o.o; Is it even worth buying? x3;

I've got the Wildflowers series kind of..sitting on my bookshelf... >>; I read a few chapters in it, but I lost my interest in it for the moment. :\ I'm sure once I'm done reading Black Cat and Child of Darkness I'll find time to finish that, too. ^^; I try to get through my old book to keep up to date.

I'm very picky about the V.C.A books I buy. If I can help it I like to get the first edition copies with those pretty art slips in 'em. :) Luckily for me I only have a couple reprints and was blessed enough to get a handful of the hardcover books at a used book store. n.n; Is anybody else as picky as I am? lol

I think I own five versions of Flowers in the Attic; I'm trying to collect all the different issues for that one. Unfortunately the very first copy I owned was lent to someone whom I don't converse with anymore. :( I don't think I'm getting it back, so I'm sure I'll end up rebuying it when I get money... And hopefully soon I can add the UK books to my shelves as well as a first edition of Petals on the Wind. n.n; I'm really, really hoping for the latter as I only have one copy of that book and it's one of my absolute favourites.

I do prefer the older books for the writing style and I'm guilty of re-reading them a bunch of times, but I don't think I'm going to give up with the newer books just yet. :) You never know when something good might finally click into Neiderman's mind. ♥

New Movie: V.C. Andrews "Rain" [Sunday, 11th December, 2005 @ 3:02pm]

[ mood | pensive ]

The brand new film has started production this past November, and on the official film website they have the casting list, complete with pictures of the chosen actors. Rain Hudson is being portrayed by an actress named Brooklyn Sudano. It appears that Andrew Neiderman, the ghostwriter of V.C. Andrews' work, is the screenplay writer for the film. I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but hopefully if the script plays true to the dialogue in the actual book than everything will be fine. The film is said to be released sometime next year.

"Rain" has also earned its very own spot on IMDB, where you can also check out the chosen actors and actresses and their past works. The film will be directed by Craig DiBona, who also directed The Devil's Advocate and Meet Joe Black.

Discussions. Thoughts or opinions of this new film? Will it be featured on the big screen or will it go straight to DVD? Much to ponder about, in the film adaptation and the direction of its publicity.

Updates and Changes [Friday, 9th September, 2005 @ 2:40pm]

[ mood | geeky ]

So, as you can see, DarkestHour has a new layout and new icon. About time don't you think? I sure thought so. I have also changed the navigation and added the memories since we are starting to get some great graphics. Please feel free to post some graphics. They must be VCA related and any large graphics should be placed behind an LJ-Cut.

Also, after an almost two year hiatus, my VCA site Midnight Whispers has been reopened and rebuilt. The link can be found in the navigation above. Please feel free to visit and comment. There are some games to enjoy and take part of, as well as a new message board that you can join.

Starting now, all graphics related entries should be posted as friends only. Please make sure that you change the security level to friends when posting any graphics to the community. If you wish to use the graphics, you will need to join.

Finally, I have decided to allow a little bit of advertising. Once a month, you may advertise your V.C. Andrews related link. Whether it be a roleplay, a fan site, an LJ community, a fanlisting, webring, clique, etc. There are some guidelines though. You must be an active member of DarkestHour. No joining just to advertise. I don't want to see one or two posts and then an ad. Active is just that. Also, you may only advertise with one message. If you have three VCA sites, great, feel free to advertise them all in one message. Advertisement graphics must be placed behind an LJ-Cut. Finally the day for advertisements is the 13th. On the 13th of every month you may pimp your VCA sites.
